Smart MasterKey continues to expand secure and flexible access management. Our latest feature, Geolocation Protection, strengthens mobile access when doors are opened over integrated security system APIs, such as Inner Range Integrity and ICT Protege.
When access is granted through the internet, it is critical to ensure users are where they should be. Geolocation Protection adds a location-based safeguard so administrators can limit how far a user can be from the access point when attempting to unlock a door.
Strengthening mobile access security
Mobile access is convenient, but in some cases, administrators want more control. If a door can be opened from anywhere, it increases the risk of misuse. With Geolocation Protection, administrators decide that users must be physically near the access point to unlock it. This ensures:
- Doors cannot be triggered remotely by mistake.
- Tenants and staff only use access when present on-site.
- Property owners maintain stronger oversight of critical entry points.
For commercial offices and rental properties, this provides an extra layer of confidence while keeping workflows efficient.
Configurable per access point
Geolocation Protection applies only to access points managed through integrated APIs at first. Each access point owner can configure the setting and decide whether to enable or disable the requirement. This flexibility allows administrators to apply stricter rules where necessary, such as main entrances, server rooms, or restricted office areas.
Simple sharing and management
When administrators share or manage access, they can choose if Geolocation Protection applies to the selected users. If an access point has the protection enabled, the requirement will apply to all users by default, though it can be unchecked when exceptions are needed.
This makes it easy to balance convenience and security without creating complex policies.
Clear indication for users
End users see a clear indication in the Smart MasterKey mobile app of which access points have Geolocation Protection enabled. They know whether they are close enough to unlock a door or not, reducing confusion and failed attempts.
This transparency ensures smooth usage while maintaining the security controls set by administrators.
Administrator control at scale
For security specialists, managers, and office administrators, the feature provides centralized control. By requiring physical presence near the door, administrators reduce the risk of unauthorized access and increase confidence in mobile credential workflows.
Key advantages:
- Prevents remote misuse of mobile access.
- Adds an additional security layer without requiring new hardware.
- Works with integrated systems already in use, such as Inner Range Integrity and ICT Protege.
- Scales across multiple properties with varying security requirements.
Building towards smarter, safer mobile access
Geolocation Protection is part of Smart MasterKey’s mission to enrich existing access systems with modern, mobile-first security layers. By combining cloud-based flexibility with location-based safeguards, administrators gain stronger control without added complexity.
For commercial offices and rental properties, this feature provides practical protection and aligns mobile access with professional security standards.
